Alright, alright, you’re thinking, who cares, I know how to swim. Well you’d be blown away if you saw the power behind rushing water. We’re talking flooding here, and it doesn’t only occur during a rainstorm. Connecticut gets flooding at all times of the year, so being prepared for the worst can help save your life. You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it again, turn around, don’t drown!! It’s the best rule to follow. If you see water pooling, puddles, or flowing water, unless it’s in a swimming pool or water park, go the opposite direction. Since water reflects light on the surface, it’s virtually impossible to see how deep it is, so don’t drive around barricades, just find a new route. Also, don’t play in flooded waters and make sure to stay away from electrical wires because water is a great conductor of electricity. It only takes 2 feet of water to float a car, and only 6 inches of water can sweep you off your feet. Be sure to check with your insurance company to see if you have flood insurance. Even the people living inland can become victims.
