If you get a chance to look up tonight, you'll notice a big beautiful full moon overhead, but this one is actually special for a few reasons. It's called a full worm moon, and it's the last moon you'll be seeing this winter season. As the seasons start to change, and the temperatures begin to warm, winter gives way to spring…not that we really had a winter this season anyway! With the coming of warmer temperatures, the ground begins to thaw, and earthworms begin to resurface, causing the birds to start migrating back northward.

Native American tribes knew this moon as the “Full Crow Moon”, when the sound of the crows signaled the end of winter. They also called it the “Full Crust Moon” because the snow became crusty because of the warm daytime temperatures causing the snow to thaw during the day, and refreeze at night. I’ve also heard it called the “Full Sap Moon” because it’s the time that maple trees are being tapped.

Regardless of where you’re from, it’s the last full moon we’ll see this “winter”. Does that mean cold temperatures and snow are completely over? Don’t rule it out, but as of now…I’m seeing nothin’ on the horizon!
