Everyone knows the number but do you know what to say when you call?

First things first make sure you and your family is safe. Stay as calm as you can and speak clearly…yelling into the phone won't get help to you quicker.

Confirm the address from where you are calling from. If you call from a cell phone this is even more important because what we see on 911 is the cell tower address and not the address from where you are calling from. Also know when you use a cell phone to call 911 you may not get the town you are in so confirming your address is the most important.

If you’re calling 911 to report a medical emergency, know what the emergency is. The 911 Communicator will give you what's called pre arrival instructions to help you until ambulance crews get there. The questions may appear ridiculous but know its important we ask because that helps us help you until help arrives.

When calling to report a fire first thing first "GET OUT". Have a practiced evacuation plan and meet up location for you and your family. It could be a neighbor’s house or a spot in the yard that's safe and where emergency crews can get to you. When everyone is accounted for, call back 911.  This helps responding crews create a plan on the way to the emergency. Make sure your smoke detectors are working properly.

When calling to report an accident use common sense stay in your vehicle because people won't be looking for you, they will be looking at your wreck. You don't want to get hit by a car and make things worse. If injured, don't move or move an injured person.  Just keep as calm as you can and know help is on the way.
I can't give answer for every type of 911 call just know not one is the same. Just keep as calm and collected as you can and know help is already there on the other end of the phone. More help is on the way by calling 911, You have started the wheel turning on a well oiled machine.

I can't stress enough to just stay calm and do the best you can with the instructions being received when you call.
Remember 911 is the one call that sends it all.
