Seems like everywhere I go someone stops me to ask "when can I put fertilizer down on my lawn? I need rain".
The time is now through Saturday.
Two rounds of rain coming to a town near you. The first will be more of a gentle and soaking variety Saturday Night and On/Off with showers Sunday Morning. The second round could cause a large amount of run-off as the rain is expected to come down much faster.
Rain forecast totals range from 1" in Southeastern Connecticut to over 3" for much of Northern and Western Connecticut before the heavy rain tapers early Monday. Heaviest will be Sunday Evening through Sunday Night.
It has been quite some time since we have had this much precipitation in one event. Rain deficits for 2012 to date are: -6.71" at the shoreline & -5.98" for Northern Connecticut.
Let's hope we can get a few more rain events before the typical dry times of Summer to keep lawns nice and well water levels higher.
Happy fertilizing and eventually mowing too!
-Gil
