What do my bedroom and my backyard have in common?

Hehee... wouldn't you like to know! ;) Seriously, they both can fit a king sized mattress!

If you know anything about Condo's you know that you are damn lucky to have any spot of the outdoors to call your own. My backyard, it may be tiny... but it is mine! It really is about the size of a king sized mattress… with a little room to spare around the edges. Just a little!

It's possible to have a garden in a tiny space if you let go of inside the box thinking and get imaginative! I have my little yard and it is mostly fenced in. I take advantage of the fences and plant flowers like Morning Glory's and Moonflowers. They love to climb and both I as well as my neighbor get to enjoy the pretty blooms! I also have a dwarf lilac back there... maximum scent-sation in a small package!

Here are some ideas for small spaces:

Plant some climbing plants like the Morning Glory’s or even Roses if you have fences. Who needs to go out and buy a trellis!? Use what you got baby!!!

Use tall flowering plants in front of that ugly fence to 'pretty it up'!

Plant shorter flowers like Pansies or for a shady area try Impatients as a nice cover below the taller plants. (Be careful because some plants have a mind of their own and like to wander… I have Johnny Jump-Ups all over my yard now! Love it!!!)

If you have the ability to hang planters, there is another avenue for you! (As well as space saver) They make that upside down tomato planter right? Who said you can only grow tomatoes upside down!

Get one of those outdoor patio planters (you don't need a patio!). See what you can grow in it.

You can also plant a "Salad Garden" like one of my neighbors did. He planted different types of lettuce and other greens… including mint! (The mint has since crept into my yard in the corner where he had his... it's a nice touch to a cup of tea or a mojito!) He just boxed in a section that he could easily reach to pop outside and pick his dinner salad!

You can keep your creativity to the edges of your yard so that you can still pull out your beach chair and soak up some sun... or you can fill the whole thing in and just place a few stepping stones in convenient weeding places. It's up to you... so get out there this week and start looking at your little piece of grass with imaginative eyes! Better yet… get your kids involved!

Be daring... go on! Get out there and start having some fun!
