The above image is the GFS computer model on Thursday afternoon at 18z (2pm). It shows the 700mb heights plus relative humidity.
We use this level to get a good feel for the moisture field and where that moisture is moving.
The first thing of note is that the heights or solid black lines show a nice ridge building into the east. This same ridge is reflected in all upper level maps like the 500mb map and that means the jetstream is gonna go to our north and push all the cold air up into Canada and allow some warmer, more humid air to come up from the south.
The other thing to note is that green blob stretching from Virginia up through Connecticut into Canada. This is an indication of moisture, and that will be the biggest challenge in forecasting our temps this week. The big ridge will allow us to warm up but the moisture will keep us cooler.
So, for now, I am forecasting inland highs beginning Thursday in the 70s and topping out at 75° by Friday and Saturday with mostly cloudy skies and some scattered showers those days. But...if we get a bit more sunshine and a little bit less rain, parts of Connecticut will be up toward 80°...just gotta see how this one plays out as we get a little closer, but, the bottom line is some mild air at the very least by Thursday.
