Did a "Fork" in the Jet Cause Friday's Tornadoes?

The month of June got off to a rocky start in the Mid-Atlantic and portions of the Southeastern US, with the bulk of the day's severe weather occurring near the Chesapeake Bay on Friday evening. The finalized numbers haven't been released yet, but the preliminary report shows that 8 tornadoes touched down in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina. As you'll see in the following slides, there wasn't a typical, "classic" signal for tornadic development... but there was a sign in the upper atmosphere.
