Connecticut may just be dealing with some light rain showers, but keep an eye out to the west for the real severe weather.

Today has been quite a challenge for forecasters as the Storm Prediction Center had to race up put up another Severe Thunderstorm Watch, this one for western Pennsylvania.

What does it mean for us?
Powerful storms are firing near and along the PA/NY border and these storms will continue to move towards the east-southeast.
While we have some rain showers to deal with now, later this afternoon, keep an eye to the western sky.

Southwestern CT has the highest risk of storms.
It looks like Fairfield County could still see some severe weather and although some storms could still impact the rest of the state, the worst will stay to our south and west.

Further thoughts:
The atmosphere has become stabilized due to the rain showers in CT this afternoon. Thunderstorms thrive off of an unstable atmosphere and that's the kind of setup much of Pennsylvania is seeing right now. CAPE values (potential energy) are very high and mix in hot surface temperatures and high dew-points and this is producing some very powerful storms out there.

Stay tuned to radar and WXedge.com for updates. Refer to the Binghamton, NY radar below to track these severe thunderstorms.
