The beach is infamous for being cooler than inland on hot days like today. Well this is true for beaches, east of New Haven. The usual sea breeze comes out of the South-West. East Haven, and places east get a breeze off the water with wind from the South-West. The shape of Connecticut slopes down west of New Haven. In Fairfield County and Western New Haven County (Milford, Orange, West Haven) a South-West wind is still a land breeze. This means that cooler air will not effect the immediate shoreline, because it is not being pushed inland at all. The exact breaking point would be on the east side of the New Haven Harbor. Check temperatures out there! You will notice, coastal places west of the New Haven Harbor are almost just as hot as the inland. There is much more of a dramatic difference for Eastern New Haven County, Middlesex County, and New London County.
