Over the past few days, temperatures have been getting warmer and warmer, mid to upper 90’s in some parts of the state today. Not only is it hot… it is also very humid and with a dew point close to 70, the only way to get rid of the hot and moist air mass is with a cold front, a front which may spell out big trouble for us in CT tomorrow. After looking at the several different models, though the timing may be a bit off, most/ all do show the scattered activity turning into the classic “squall line” of potentially very strong and severe thunderstorms anytime after 1 and lasting throughout the evening tomorrow. On the other hand, a lot has to happen for these storms to become severe. To start off, you need the extreme heat which I think without a doubt we will get. Next, you need lots of moisture in the air (humidity and dew point) which I also think will be very likely. All of these things come together into what us weather geeks call “convection”. Now the only thing that has to come through at just the right time would be the powerful cold front. Now if all of the needed items as listed above do come together at the right time, we could be talking about very nasty storms with lots of lightning, large hail, very heavy rain, winds that may gust over 60 mph and though its it NOT LIKELY at this point, there may be enough rotation in some of the super cell storms that do form to cause a tornado, but as I repeat that is NOT LIKELY! So because of this threat, the SPC (Storm Prediction Center) has put all of CT and much of New England under the “slight risk” area for severe weather tomorrow afternoon. So the bottom line... Stick with News8, wtnh.com Wxedge.com and my twitter page, (@zduhaimedmj) for the latest on the potential severe weather tomorrow!
