The risk of severe weather is increasing for tomorrow, Thursday, July 26th.
The Storm Prediction Center just increased their severe threat outlook for tomorrow to moderate. They have also used some very strong language in their outlook:
"...POTENTIAL FOR A WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WIND EVENT/DERECHO ON THU AFTERNOON FROM PARTS OF THE MIDWEST TO THE NORTHEAST..."
Potentially dangerous storms are a real possibility as ingredients come together.
An approaching frontal boundary to the north will interact with a very unstable atmosphere over Connecticut. Throw in some hot weather and strong wind shear aloft, and things may get ugly.
Although the entire state can expect storms to roll through tomorrow, the focus really points towards the western half of the state. Damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes are included in the outlook.
Stay tuned to WXedge.com for a full update as data continues to be reviewed.
To put this outlook into perspective, it has been several years since the SPC placed Connecticut in the "moderate risk" category for Day 2.
