Tornado/Microburst Details: July 31, 2009

Above is a looping image of the storms that rolled through the state during the afternoon on 7/31/2009. This storm dropped a confirmed tornado about 3 miles south of Shelton at 3:56 PM with winds between 95-105 mph. Thankfully no one was injured or killed along the 1/2 mile path of the storm. Additionally, a 200 yard area of damage was reported after a confirmed microburst moved through Naugatuck at 3:39 PM. Winds were estimated at 95 mph, and reports indicated downed trees near the on/off ramps of exit 25 on RT-8 NB. The trees reportedly fell in the same direction, indicating a microburst.
Finally, a second tornado was also confimed in Madison at 4:28 pm. The damage indicated winds around 100 mph making it an EF-1 tornado. It was confirmed on the ground for about 2/75 miles near Copse Trail to Hull Road between Acorn and Saxon Roads.
