Meteorologically speaking, we are now in the final third of summer...a tear just fell into my keyboard. Although the calendar says we don't wrap things up until late September, we all know that come Labor Day, us East Coasters tend to move into autumn-mode in preparation for the long winter.

The numbers for the month and the year-so-far are in, and here's where we stand...

In Bridgeport, our average temperature for July (all of the highs and lows added together then divided by 31 days) was 77.3° - That's a very significant 3° warmer than average. But that's no surprise...over the last year and a half, almost every month has been above normal and our summer months the most extreme in difference between actual and normal. The hottest day was the 18th with a high of 95°.

Bridgeport rainfall comes in at 4.35", and that is very good news. That's almost an inch more than what a normal July should have...last year we only saw 2" for the month. On the 28th, we had 1.97" in just one day. For the year we are still below-average. Normal is 24.94"...this year so far only 21.88". Last year by this point we were already up over 31". For the summer so far we are also above-average with 8.74" of rain. A normal June and July should have about 7". Last summer we had almost identical amounts of rain as this summer so far.

We head inland up to Bradley Airport and the greater Hartford area. The average temperature for July was 76.2° which is 2.6° warmer than average. We hit 100° once on the 18th.

As far as rainfall at BDL: 4.34" for July which is above average, but only by .16". The heaviest rain fell on the 28th and 29th when we received 1.90". Much better than last July which only saw 1.72".

June and July combined for a total of 8.56", almost identical to the same time last year and almost exactly what should fall during the first two months of summer.

For the year we are up to 20.80" which is still very much below-average. We should be up to 26.34" which explains why we have been dealing with drought. Last year, the first seven months had 32.58".

So, how is our drought doing? The new update comes out on Thursday...we'll be sure to post it as soon as it comes out.
