4:40 p.m. update:
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be issued for New England, but only marginally severe weather is anticipated by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC).
Regardless, there have been numerous reports of trees and power lines down from Hartford and Tolland Counties, up northward into central Massachusetts.

3:40 p.m. update:
A new Watch has been issued for nearby northern New Jersey and points south.

The SPC released an update saying that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be issued for portions of the area.

Developing thunderstorms across eastern Pennsylvania are moving into a more favorable environment for strengthening. As a result, the SPC is monitoring those storms. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be issued for areas as far east as Litchfield and Fairfield Counties.

Although the severe risk appears low at this point, it is important to keep an eye on these storms. What happens in eastern Pennsylvania could be a pre-cursor to what we can expect later this evening.

The line of storms over eastern Pennsylvania is projected to reach the western part of Connecticut as early as the 6 to 7 p.m. window. From that point, the storms will then advance eastward.
