The image above shows our Storm Team 8 "Microcast" computer model paused at 6am on Saturday. This looks to be the bull's eye of the rain across Connecticut along with the leading edge of much cooler temperatures.
What's causing the change in weather? A cold front coming out of the Great Lakes tonight, due to arrive in Connecticut on Friday evening.
The front could spark off a few storms as early as Friday afternoon in Western Connecticut, but the best chance of rain looks to be after midnight until about 9am on Saturday morning. Some heavy downpours and some non-severe storms are possible as the cold front pushes through our state and moisture from the south rides along this slowly-moving frontal boundary.
Saturday is still a tricky forecast, but I like the way it is starting to look more and more. I think the cold front could clear out by about lunchtime on Saturday and push far enough to the east that Saturday is a mainly dry day. But...I stress the word "mainly," because the front is still close enough that we could have a mix of clouds and sun and a few isolated storms at any point. But the best chance at the afternoon showers would be in far Southern and Eastern Connecticut, while the best chance of more sunshine will be to the west.
With the front continuing to push east on Sunday, that should be the better of the two weekend days. One computer model brings a few showers in on Sunday, but even if that model is right, it won't be enough to ruin what should be a beautiful day, but I'm not gonna add any rain to the forecast after Saturday....only sunshine and highs in the upper 70s to around 80°.
