As we keep an eye on Tropical Storm Isaac, soon to be Hurricane Isaac by tomorrow, could it be just a coincidence that by tomorrow (in 2005) Tropical Storm Katrina became Hurricane Katrina? The second strongest hurricane in U.S. History was absolutely devastating. With almost two thousand confirmed deaths, and approximately 100 billion dollars in damages, Hurricane Katrina's maximum sustained wind speeds EXCEEDED 170 mph.
On this day, in 1885 a hurricane ravaged South Carolina causing over a million dollars in damages, and in 1852 a hurricane struck Mobile, AL
Charlotteburg, NJ recorded the coldest morning temperature in NJ, with temperatures hovering in the low 30's.
