Hurricane Isaac is expected to make landfall Wednesday morning as a Category 1 storm along the Louisiana coastline, then be near or just west of New Orleans before moving north.
The image above shows the projected path of Isaac and its remnants over the next five days. The northern-most "L" near the Great Lakes is where the storm will be on Sunday afternoon. The storm could affect our Labor Day Weekend up here in two ways that are very distinct and polar opposites.
Part One: With this storm being so powerful, it means the first three days of the holiday weekend should be great. Friday, Saturday and Sunday look to be dry because the storm is so far away, pretty much controlling all of the weather in the Central and Eastern US. A weak cold front could bring some clouds this weekend, but there should not be enough moisture for rain. Ahead of the front...very warm Friday and Saturday...then cooler for Sunday.
Part Two: By Monday, as what's left of Isaac curls back up to toward the Northeast and interacts with the cold front that will come through this weekend, Labor Day could feature clouds, showers & storms that will continue into Tuesday.
So...if you are planning your holiday weekend, think about fitting as much beach time as possible into Friday, Saturday and Sunday since Labor Day itself may end up being more of an indoor day...but, as with all tropical systems, a slight track or speed change and rain could begin as early as Sunday or hold off until Tuesday...so stay tuned.
By the way...how how Isaac affected us so far? Yesterday's humidity was a direct result of Isaac, even as it was more than a thousand miles away. And the cold front that came through on Tuesday morning was able to dump even more rain onto CT because it was drawing up moisture all the way from Isaac and the Gulf.
