It is officially the end of meteorological summer and with that comes the glorious season of autumn. Ah yes the season of cooler nights and the daytime highs that become more and more tolerable. Soon the leaves with change color and Halloween will be upon us. But for now let’s just take a look at how August was this year from my weather station in North Haven, CT.
The average high and low temperatures for New Haven, CT for August are as follows:
Average low: 66°
Average high: 81°
In August, the low temps were about 1.5° below normal and the highs were 3.3° above normal.
The highest temperature of the month was recorded on 8/4/12 at 92.8° and the coldest temp was recorded the morning of 8/30/12 when it got down to 52.2°
A very stormy day on 8/10/12 brought lots of rain to the area. That afternoon, I recorded 2.15 inches of rain in about 90 minutes! Half of the monthly supply of rain happened in a couple of hours! It was also on this day that the first ever recorded tornado touched down on Block Island!
