7PM: Storms Weakening Across CT

Gusty thunderstorms continue to pass through Connecticut.

7:00 p.m.
The severe weather and tornado threat is MUCH LOWER as these storms are tending to weaken. Still, heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds can be expected over the eastern half of CT through 9 p.m.

The storms did cause some damage and power outages further west. The town of Kent was hit hardest, as 76% of the town's customers are without power. 

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is moving through western CT.

6:30 p.m.
Strong to potentially severe thunderstorms were located along or just west of the Route 8 corridor. The storms are bringing heavy rain, dangerous lightning and strong, gusty winds.
The storms do appear to be weakening somewhat as the sun is getting ready to set. With that said, still prepare for gusty thunderstorms into the early evening hours.

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is beginning to cross into extreme western sections of Connecticut.

5:55 p.m.
The line of storms has reached the NY/CT border and will continue to move eastward. Winds will increase to 20 to 40 mph with these storms and winds could gust into the range of 50 to 70 mph. This may cause some power outages as trees and power lines could be brought down. Use extreme caution if you are driving into this area.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Fairfield County.
Tornado Watches remain in effect for Litchfield County and southern CT.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for northeastern CT. 

Threat:
Dangerous lightning and strong winds are the biggest concern. A few areas may see small hail and flash flooding. There is still a slight risk for an isolated tornado to spin up along this line of storms.
