SPC says that there will likely (60% chance) be a Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for portions of the area, which may include extreme western Connecticut.
Setup:
A cold front is moving through New York and Pennsylvania. As a warm front lifts through our area, bringing warm, moist air into Connecticut, a few strong to locally severe thunderstorms could fire up later this afternoon. As daytime heating is maximized, the atmosphere is becoming marginally unstable for thunderstorm development.
Forecast:
Any storms that fire this afternoon should remain west of Connecticut through 6 p.m. Between 7 p.m. and midnight, a line of showers and embedded thunderstorms is expected to move through. Although severe weather should not be widespread, portions of western Connecticut could get some heavy rain and/or briefly strong winds ahead of the cold front. As the front moves eastward after dark, the area of precipitation is expected to weaken. This means that eastern Connecticut may see little if any rain.
