One of the things I like most about autumn are the wide range of temperatures. On September 1st the temperature reached 88° and just 3 weeks later I recorded a low temperature of 40°. The leaves are starting to change color and this is the best time of the year for hiking. Areas of the country where the drought is most severe won’t get such a vivid foliage season this year, but Connecticut should be fine. Our drought was wiped out on 9/25/12 when much of the state recorded over an inch of rain. At my station, I recorded 2.17” of rain which makes it the rainiest day of 2012 so far! The 25th narrowly beat out the stormy summer day of August 10th when 2.15 inches of rain fell from strong thunderstorms.
Both the average high and average low temperatures for September were above average. The average low was 3° above normal and the average high was about 2° above normal. Above average has been the theme this year so far.
My highest wind gust was 23 mph, but that seemed low compared to my neighbor Nick who recorded a 50 mph gust just 2 miles away! Because of this, I moved my station to a better location with less obstruction and I’m already getting better readings.
