The rain arrived on schedule after midnight into early Friday morning and it is still forecast to stick around all-day Friday.
Waves of rain will be pushing into and out of Connecticut until early Saturday morning. At times, there will be heavier downpours and strong winds, especially when we see the non-severe thunderstorms which could pop up at any point. The southeasterly wind gusts up to 25-30mph will also keep things warm and humid the entire day and along with the rain, the high humidity will help keep fog in the forecast.
It looks like the steady rain could continue into Friday evening, but the rain should be tapering off Friday night into Saturday morning...that means after a few early morning showers on Saturday, the rest of the weekend should be dry. The sun gradually works in on Saturday and will be in abundance on Sunday.
One other threat today is coastal flooding. High tide happens between 1pm and 4pm and that means minor coastal flooding is possible in Fairfield and New Haven counties at this time.
So...how much rain can we expect? The image above is the QPF (quantitative precipitation forecast) from the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center....in other words, the forecast for total rainfall.
The bull's eye is no doubt across the Northeast and New England where you see the blue shading. All of Connecticut falls between and .75" and 1.5", and if any one area receives a few thunderstorms, it's possible a couple of spots could be closing in on 2", but in general, this should be about a 1" rainfall and the type of rain that is really great for our dry conditions from recent months because it is slow, steady and soaking.
