As Hurricane Sandy makes landfall, the wind field is incredibly huge.
Tropical storm-force winds extend from South Carolina to Maine and hurricane-force gusts are occurring from North Carolina up to coastal southern New England.
Discussion:
Although Sandy is making landfall as a Category 1 hurricane with maximum winds of 90 mph, all the way down near Cape May, NJ, its affects are felt up and down the East Coast.
Wind gusts have exceeded hurricane force in Groton, CT, Long Island, near New York City and the New Jersey coastline.
Forecast:
The strongest of the winds in Connecticut will be felt between now and 8 p.m., but the winds will gradually decrease towards midnight. Winds overnight will still be gusty, but the damaging wind threat will diminish after midnight. Breezy conditions are expected for Tuesday, but the worst is happening right now.
