October was a month of frequent cloudy days, slightly above normal temperatures. Typically October is one of the clearest months, but not this year!

The first week featured a few warm days with highs in the 70s.  Then around mid-month the first freeze and frost occurred with temperatures in the 20s and 30s!  The later part of the month featured  mild mornings with temperatures in the 50s mainly because of the overcast skies that did not allow for radational cooling. The final week featured Storm Sandy. I only recorded a wind gust to 35 mph because I was slightly blocked from the house. However, up the street the Weather bug gusted to 71 mph!!  Rainfall during the storm only amounted to .67”.   Finally Heating degree days were at 300, which was about 110 less than October 2011.
