The setup was similar to the previous night, but these storms came in a bit stronger and also more into Connecticut.

Many of us were woken up by booming thunder, flashes of lightning and pouring rain. It's a sign of things to come as more storms could flare up this afternoon or evening.

Gil is also right that the models did not handle this convection very well. The NAM had some rain moving into the state, but didn't show the heavy thunder and missed all of the storms that slammed the NYC metro area.
