Isolated Storms: Damage is Done

When it comes to storms, it's not always about how many...
A few isolated strong to severe storms left their mark across Connecticut on Tuesday. A couple of the storms became pretty powerful, carrying strong winds and even some hail.
It wasn't a classic setup for widespread severe weather, but enough ingredients came together for the nasty storms. Throw in hot surface temperatures to a moderately unstable atmosphere, mix in some wind shear and add in a cold front...there you go, storm development.
Storms began to fire in the afternoon hours and this prompted the Storm Prediction Center to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of northern Connecticut.
As the cold front quickly dropped southward, some intense storms even made it into southwestern parts of the state. With these storms moving fast, the momentum worked to enhance some of the damaging winds. North Haven and Shelton were the hardest hit with numerous reports of trees and power lines coming down.
This was also a good example that when there is a Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued, those near and around the Watch should be prepared for severe thunderstorms. A Watch was never issued for southern Connecticut, where most of the damage took place!
If that wasn't enough, the stage is set for more severe storms tomorrow.
