Thunderstorms are already passing through parts of the area this morning.
12:45 p.m.
Thunderstorms are moving from SSW to NNE across western CT and adjacent eastern NY. Scattered thunderstorms will continue through the afternoon and a Tornado Watch remains in effect for Hartford, Fairfield, New Haven and Middlesex counties through 9 p.m. The Watch remains in effect through 10 p.m. for Litchfield County.
Although some of these midday storms can be strong, the biggest concern comes later this afternoon and into the evening. Portions of the area will likely be placed under a Tornado Watch.

11:00 a.m.
Thunderstorms in and around NYC are moving from south to north. These storms have a history of producing rotation in the atmosphere. As a result, a Tornado WARNING was issued just outside of NYC, shortly after 10:30 a.m.
These storms can produce torrential rain, dangerous lightning and strong wind gusts. At this time, there are no watches or warnings in effect for Connecticut.
