A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is approaching western Connecticut
7:56 p.m.
Discussion:
Thunderstorms ahead of a cold front have strengthened across the Hudson Valley. Shortly before 8 p.m., radar indicated strong winds and small hail in the vicinity of I-84, west of the Hudson River. The activity was also about to cross over the New York State Thruway. It appears that the storms may remain rather strong as they approach the Connecticut border. However, as the storms move into a more stable environment, weakening is expected as they move through Connecticut.
Forecast:
As the cold front approaches, heavy rain and gusty winds can be expected, mainly across northern Fairfield County and Litchfield County. The storms will reach extreme western Connecticut between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. A few spots may briefly experience small hail, if the storms hang onto enough strength. Beyond that, the storms will continue eastward and weaken. Only light amounts of rain are forecast for the eastern half of Connecticut.

Those areas may also get some brief gusty winds with any stronger storms. Further east, less rain is expected as the line of storms will be weakening.
