After a chilly start with some frost yesterday morning, many areas were already at or above 70 degrees by 9 a.m. this morning.

The image above shows the temperature change from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. this morning at the official reporting stations. Many areas are 20 to 25 degrees warmer than they were just 24 hours earlier.

What happened?
Tuesday morning was an ideal morning for radiational cooling. High pressure was overhead and with clear skies and light winds, temperatures tumbled in a big way.
This morning, with high pressure offshore, winds are out of the south. That helped draw in warm air from Long Island Sound, which is still in the upper 60s to around 70 for water temperatures. Add in clouds, which limited cooling and the difference is huge.

Bridgeport: Their normal high for the date is 70 degrees, but their low temperature was only 67 this morning! The low was 13 degrees above average. Their 24 hour temperature change at 7 a.m. was 20 degrees.

Groton: After an unusually chilly low of 41 degrees yesterday, their low today was only 65 degrees. Their 24 hour temperature change at 7 a.m. was an impressive 25 degrees!

New Haven: Their 24 hour temperature change at 7 a.m. was also 25 degrees. However, the most impressive thing may be the fact that their 8 a.m. temperature of 70 degrees was basically equal to their normal high temperature for the date!

Add in dew-points in the upper 50s to lower 60s and it feels more like a summer morning than an early fall morning!

Quick look at 7 a.m. Tuesday vs. 7 a.m. Wednesday:
DXR 41/60 +19
OXC 45/61 +16
MMK 40/60 +20
BDL 43/60 +17
HFD 44/62 +18
IJD 40/60 +20
GON 42/67 +25
HVN 44/69 +25
BDR 48/68 +20
