Governor Malloy says that residents should prepare for a storm surge that is equivalent to that of a Category 4 Hurricane.
Hurricane Sandy is a powerful storm. In fact, its pressure has dropped to the same level that the Hurricane of 1938 was when it made landfall in Connecticut.
In this slideshow are some storm surge estimate maps. The yellow color is the Category 3 water level and the red color is the Category 4 level. Storm surges could reach the yellow and possibly red levels later tonight and into early Tuesday.
